World Breastfeeding Week (August 1 – 7, 2016) began twenty years ago by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA), a global network of individuals and organizations, including the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO). This year’s theme ,“Breastfeeding: A Key to Sustainable Development” is a call to action to support breastfeeding for nutrition, food security, and poverty reduction. Maryland Breastfeeding Coalition joins with other voices to think about how to value our wellbeing from the start of life, how to respect each other and care for the world we share.
Maryland has gone a step further and will use the entire month (August 1st – 31st) to celebrate, educate and raise awareness about breastfeeding. Check out the Governor’s Proclamation!
