• World Breastfeeding Week (August 1 – 7) began over twenty years ago by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA), a global network of individuals and organizations, including the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO). In 2011 the United States Breastfeeding Committee (USBC) officially declared that August as the National Breastfeeding Month. The 2020 National Breastfeeding Month theme is Protect Breastfeeding: A Shared Responsibility. Maryland celebrates this month by celebrating, educating and raising awareness about breastfeeding.
