The Children’s Health Center at Children’s National Medical Center is striving to create a breastfeeding-friendly environment for patients and staff. Our clinic is devoid of formula advertising and instead has signs welcoming breastfeeding. We have two lactation specialists and one lactation consultant on staff and have developed a template for electronic medical records that prompts providers to inquire if and why mothers are supplementing, identify breastfeeding challenges as well as encourages providers to observe and assist mothers breastfeed.
